Become a new chum!
If you have questions or want to start the new process of becoming a member, you can email: membership@6thwoodrunners.org
Step 1: Visit Us
We welcome you to visit a group meeting before joining us. We meet twice a month. Once for a regular meeting, and another for an outdoor or service event. Contact us at the email above, and we’ll discuss our upcoming meeting times and locations.
Step 2: The Forms and Fees
When you’re ready to sign up, we’ll send you a registration form followed by a payment link. Fill out both, and if you have any questions you can reach back out to us. If you want to pay with cash instead of a card, we can arrange payment at the next meeting. If you’re worried about being able to pay, ask about our scholarship program. Scouting is for everybody, and we want to make sure everyone has access to enjoying the outdoors.
Step 3: Joining TroopTrack
After we’ve received your registration form, we’ll send you a welcome letter and an invite to TroopTrack, our scouting software. The welcome letter will give you basic details to how our group works, and it will include contact information for you and/or your scout’s leaders.
TroopTrack will keep you up to date with scout events, annoucenments, and help track scout progress. If you run into any issues with TroopTrack, reach out to our admin.
Step 4: Scouting!
This is the best step. Get outside, have fun, and learn some new skills!
The scout’s first step in the program is being invested. The steps to investment vary from section to section, but each requires them to learn some basic info about scouting and the basic scout skills for that section. Your welcome letter will include the investment steps for each section that applies to you and your scouts. If you have any questions, contact your section leader.
Dues and Fees
Yearly Fee (as of 2024):
$45/scout
$25 of the yearly fee goes to the Outdoor Service Guides national organization, and covers background checks for scouters and adult volunteers. The remaining $20 goes to 6th Woodrunners directly.
Extra fees may be required for single activities throughout the year to cover extra costs such as food and campground rentals. We do not participate in sales-based fundraising, and instead we apply for grants and collect standard donations. We try to keep fees minimal.
All fees can be paid in either cash or electronic methods. Please contact your leader if your family cannot afford the gear or fees. We provide a scholarship program to help scouts in need. Scouting is for Everyone!
Uniforms
Uniforms are an important aspect to scouting. Uniforms are to be kept neat and tidy. They are worn to all meetings and most activities. For Chipmunks, Otters, and Timberwolves, the shirts are a standard short or long-sleeved t-shirt in one of three colors. They can be purchased at any store that sells basic shirts. Pathfinders wear a collared shirt. For youth sections, we recommend buying the shirt a little large so the scout can grow into it for each program. Scouts will receive their group necker from us when they’ve been invested into the group by completing certain tasks. We also suggest purchasing an OSG branded t-shirt for warm weather or less formal activities. Reach out to your leader with any questions or concerns.
More info will be provided in the welcome letter. We are also happy to accomodate to any needs the scout may have.
